2010 NFL Mock Draft Version 2

Here is my second crack at the 2010 mock.  *** denots changed picks from V1

1. St. Louis Rams-QB Sam Bradford, Oklahoma-With Bulger out in St. Louis the cupboards are bare at the quarterback position. They are willing to overlook Bradford’s injury concerns in hopes of getting the QB of the future.

2. Detroit Lions-DT Ndamukong Suh, Nebraska-The Lions addressed D-line in free agency, but the grab the best talent in the draft anyway. It is the Lions so they may pass up Suh for O-line.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-DT Gerald McCoy, Oklahoma- The Bucs are going D-line with this picks. So long as St. Louis take a QB, they will be able to get McCoy here.

4. Washington Redskins- OT Russel Okung, Oklahoma State. With Samuels retiring due to injury in the offseason, the Redskins will keep their fingers crossed that Okung makes it to them at 4 so they can rebuild. LJ and Portis thank the Skins for this move.

5. Kansas City Chiefs- OT Brian Bulaga, Iowa-The Chiefs need help at a lot of places and this pick could go a lot of places (similar to Cleveland at #5 last year). Bulaga is the safest bet for left tackle prospects in this year’s class, and the Chiefs need to rebuild that once great O-line

6. Seattle Seahawks-S Eric Berry, Tennessee-Seattle needs a safety and Berry is the best there is.

7. ***Cleveland Browns- QB Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame- The more I thought about it, the less Im willing to accept that Holmgren will go into 2010 with Delhomme and Wallace as the only options at QB. Holmgren got Hasselbeck when he moved to Seattle. I think he gets his QB of the future here.

8. ***Oakland Raiders-OT Trent Williams, Oklahoma -Im not hearing the same buzz about Cambell as I did right after the combine. That tells me the shine is coming off him. Williams is a solid OT at the 8 spot, but the Raiders have needs almost everywhere so this pick could go a lot of ways.

9. ***Buffalo Bills- Dan Williams-DT Tennessee. The Bills had Tebow in town, and they really need a QB, but I don’t think they will be so crazy as to use the #9 pick on somebody with that many questions looming. With the switch to the 3-4 this year, a solid NT makes a lot of sense.

10.   Jacksonville Jaguars- ILB Rolando McClain, Alabama-McClain is the top linebacker in the draft and a perfect fit for Jacksonville, who needs LBs more than any other position.

11.  Denver Broncos- WR Dez Bryant, Okahoma State- I like this pick for two reasons. First Marshall looks to be on his way out, second even if they keep him, this move helps solidify what was a weak passing attack when Marshall wasn’t on his game.

12.  Miami Dolphins-OLB Jason Pierre-Paul, South Florida-Pierre-Paul is a pass rushing LB to replace Porter. NT makes some sense here as well so if he falls, he could be their man.

13. ***San Francisco 49ers-OT Anthony Davis, Rutgers-Niners are starting to show signs of being able to win the division. O-line is their biggest weakness and they address it here with Davis.

14.  Seattle Seahawks-RB CJ Spiller, Clemson-Seattle had a patchwork ground game last year highlighted by Forsette. Unfortunately, he is nowhere near big enough to be an every down back. Seattle gets their RB of the future in Spiller.

15.  ***New York Giants-CB Joe Haden CB Florida-The Giants need a DT and an MLB but Im not sure any warrant this pick. I think Haden fits in nicely beside Aaron Ross, but this could possibly be a good spot to move down

16.  Tennessee Titans-DE Derrick Morgan, Georgia Tech-Titans need a defensive end like the Raiders need a new GM. Fisher will be doing cartwheels to get Morgan at 16 with the loss of Vanden Bosch.

17.  San Francisco 49ers-S Earl Thomas, Texas- A hard hitting safety could solidify an already great defense in San Fran. Thomas and Willis could give RBs nightmares for years to come. I don’t think the Niners would want two rookies on their O-line in 2010, but Iupati does make some sense here.

18.  Pittsburgh Steelers-OG Mike Iupati, Idaho-A year removed from the Superbowl, the Steelers started to show cracks. Especially alone the O-line. Iupati can help shore up the run game and hopefully keep Ben off his back.

19.  ***Atlanta Falcons- LB Sean Weatherspoon, Missouri. The Falcons need a new identity on defense and Weatherspoon is the man they tag to provide it. His pass rush skills allow them to pass on a DE at this spot while strengthening their LB corps.

20.  Houston Texans-RB Ryan Mathews, Fresno State- RB was a bit of a disaster last year with Slaton/Moates/Brown all getting serious playing time, but none doing it especially well. Matthews can step in and add a great complement to Slaton who can now be a dangerous 3rd down RB.

21.  Cincinnati Bengals- DE Carlos Dunlap, Florida-With Odom’s serious injury last year and Geathers looking average the Bengals will look to shore up what is already a solid D with some more pass rush. There has been talk of a TE and maybe a WR here, but with Bryant in the mix I thin they are ok at WR and take another year to see on Coffman.

22.  New England Patriots-TE Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma-The Patriots lost both Ben Watson and Chris Baker in free agency and have said they will look more to the run in 2010. They recently added Algae Crumpler, but he wont be their everyday TE. Gresham will have a mentor now in Crumpler.

23.  ***Green Bay Packers- OT Charles Brown, USC - Imagine the numbers Rogers could have put up in 2009 if he wasn’t constantly running from defenders. I think the Pack have to go OL in the first round and Brown is now the best of what is left.

24.  ***Philadelphia Eagles- DE Brandon Graham, Michigan – Philly needs an OL here but I don’t think there will be much left by the time they draft. We may see them trade up like they did last year to get in front of the OL weak Packers. With nobody to help at OL left, they grab their other area of need, DE.

25.  Baltimore Ravens-CB Kyle Wilson, Boise State- Kyle slides a bit in this mock and I think the Ravens wont be able to pass up on the value at #26 for a solid CB.

26.   ***Arizona Cardinals- OLB Jerry Hughes – TCU. The Cardinals need pass rush and they have to know Jerry Porter is not the long term solution. Hughes is all about pass rush and fits nicely into their scheme.

27.  Dallas Cowboys-S Taylor Mays, USC-Roy who? The Cowboys hope Mays can become the safety that RW looked like he was going to become.

28.  San Diego Chargers-DT Brian Price, UCLA - The Chargers need a RB, but none are available at this spot. So instead they go with another are of need in DT. Price has the size and push the Chargers need to let their LBs be effective.

29.  ***New York Jets-DE Jared Odrick Penn St. – I still like a WR here but I think the value in Odrick is too much to pass up. WR is a position the Jets can grab in round 2 without too much drop off.

30.  Minnesota Vikings-CB Devin McCourty, Rutgers-The Vikings don’t need help in many places. Winfield’s injury last year showed that depth at CB isn’t great so I like this pick.

31.  Indianapolis Colts- OL Maurkice Pouncey, Florida- The Colts draft Saturday’s replacement and get a player who can help right away at guard. A no-brainer for the Colts.

32.  New Orleans Saints-OLB Sergio Kindle, Texas- The Saints lost Fujita in the offseason and LB was not an area of strength to begin with. Kindle is a steal at the end of round one and should help make the Saints scary on the other side of the ball.

2010 Mock Draft #1

Here is my first crack at a 2010 mock draft. A year very deep in D-line and LB. I will be updating this a few times between now and the draft. Be sure to check it out.

1. St. Louis Rams
-QB Sam Bradford, Oklahoma-With Bulger out in St.

4. Washington Redskins- Russel Okung, Oklahoma State.

Bulaga is the safest bet for left tackle prospects in this year’s class, and the Chiefs need to rebuild that once great O-line.

6. Seattle Seahawks-S Eric Berry, Tennessee-Seattle needs a safety and Berry is the best there is.

7. Cleveland Browns-CB Joe Haden, Florida-Holmgren is cleaned house in Cleveland so this pick could be almost any position (probably not a kicker). I like a bookend for Thomas with this pick but with the top two OTs gone, Cleveland will grab the top defender available.

8. Oakland Raiders-OT Bruce Campbell, Maryland-The Raiders cant resist a good combine. Bruce was this year’s combine monster and frankly they need help all over the field.

9. Buffalo Bills- QB Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame- The Bills have a pretty terrible collection at the QB position that just didn’t work last year. New coach likely means new QB. Clausen is the 1A in this year’s draft and the Bills feel lucky to get him at #9.

Dan Williams has been moving up boards, so look for the Dolphins to maybe reach here.

13. San Francisco 49ers-OT Trent Williams, Oklahoma-Niners are starting to show signs of being able to win the division. O-line is their biggest weakness and they address it here with solid value at the 13 spot.

14. Seattle Seahawks-RB CJ Spiller, Clemson-Seattle had a patchwork ground game last year highlighted by Forsette. Unfortunately, he is nowhere near big enough to be an every down back. Seattle hopes that Spiller is big enough to be the RB of the future.

15. New York Giants-DT Dan Williams, Tennessee-The interior defense for the Giants needs a bit of help and a solid DT like Williams will go a long way to helping the Giants dominate the trenches again.

19. Atlanta Falcons- OLB/DE Brandon Graham, Michigan, Pass rush for the Falcons was an area of weakness in 2010. Look for Graham to play DE opposite Abraham.

22. New England Patriots-TE Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma-The Patriots lost both Ben Watson and Chris Baker in free agency, they recently added Algae Crumpler, but he wont be their everyday TE. Gresham will have a mentor now in Crumpler.

23. Green Bay Packers- OT Anthony Davis, Rutgers- Imagine the numbers Rogers could have put up in 2009 if he wasn’t constantly running from defenders. I think the Pack have to go OL in the first round and Davis is the best of whats left.

24. Philadelphia Eagles- OT Charles Brown, USC- The Andrews experiment in Philly was a disaster. Shawn is gone, and Stacey may not be far behind. This is the first step in the rebuilding of a solid OL.

25. Baltimore Ravens-CB Kyle Wilson, Boise State- Kyle slides a bit in this mock and I think the Ravens wont be able to pass up on the value at #26 for a solid CB.

26. Arizona Cardinals- LB Sean Weatherspoon, Missouri. The Cards lost three key players this offseason. I see Dansby as the player they are least able to replace and therefore I like Weatherspoon to the Cards.

27. Dallas Cowboys-S Taylor Mays, USC-Roy who? The Cowboys how Mays can become the safety that RW looked like he was going to become.

28. San Diego Chargers-DT Brian Price, UCLA - The Chargers need a RB, but none are available at this spot. So instead they go with another are of need in DT. Price has the size and push the Chargers need to let their LBs be effective.

29. New York Jets-WR Golden Tate, Notre Dame-Sanchez needs some playmakers so that the Jets O can be something other than a run only team. Edwards has shown that his stone hands arnt going away so I like WR here. Tate and Benn are both solid picks at this spot.
